A delegation of students in the SPN traveled to the Applied Polymer Technology Extension Consortium’s (APTEC) 5th Annual Polymer Research Symposium, which was hosted by The University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS. All student participants presented posters. |

The SPN hosted Dr. Jeff Linnhardt from Verily Life Sciences (formerly Google) who gave a seminar on smart contact lens technology. |

Members of the SPN volunteered at the Center for the Science and Technology of Advanced Materials and Interfaces (STAMI) Industrial Partners Day and Exposition. The SPN executive board also organized the poster session at this event. |

Members of the SPN participated in the outreach event “Step Into STEM” in which elementary through high school aged children can come and participate in scientific demos. The SPN demonstrated concepts such as polymer gel networks and glass transition temperature. |

The SPN hosts scientists from the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL), Dr. Christopher Tabor and Dr. Dan Berrigan, to discuss the research happening at AFRL and potential career opportunities. After the seminar the SPN hosted a picnic for all participants. |

The SPN travels to Printpack in Villa Rica, GA. While at the facility students saw large scale roll-to-roll printing equipment and a large scale aluminum evaporator for food packaging. |

The SPN sent a delegation of students to the Southeast Polymer Forum at Virgina Tech in Blacksburg, VA. The students along with Ga Tech faculty spent their time learning about recent polymer research conducted at schools in the southeastern region of the US. All SPN students presented posters. |

The SPN hosted a PhD from Printpack, a large printing and packaging company based in Atlanta, that discussed opportunities for polymer scientists in the printing and packaging industry and recent research and development work going on at Printpack. |

SPN Career Development Series, “PhD to IP”, where patent attorney from Thomas Horstemeyer IP discussed the importance of IP and legal issues in science and research and his own journey from a PhD to a career in IP. A recent PhD graduate of the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Hailey Bureau, also talked about her experiences in transitioning from graduate school to law school and working in a patent office. |
